Mareel is Shetland's new cinema + music venue which is due to be opened by Shetland Arts in Lerwick next year. It has also been the focus for my final year studies at Grays School of Art.

The overall aim of the project was to create a brand identity that reinforces the forward thinking nature of the controversial arts centre in one of Britain's most unique and distinctive areas. The identity must be able to speak, on a personal level, not only to the people of Shetland, but also to people all over the world, as links out with Shetland are important for the venue to be successful.

The second part of the Mareel project was to develop a method of engaging with and making people fully aware of Mareel as a new and exciting brand for Shetland. This resulted in 'The Mareel Box', represented as a projection box in the shape of the Mareel architecture. The box strived to get people thinking and talking about the venue, with the main outcomes being interaction and to bring the venue to life for the first time, whilst still underpinning the whole meaning of Mareel.
